Before Upgrading

1. Ensure that your physical machine meets system requirements.
2. Verify virtual machine version is on Workstation 7.x, 8, 9, 10 or 11
3. Shut down your virtual machines.
4. Review Prepare for an Upgrade

Upgrading VMware Workstation Pro

1. When you start VMware Workstation, you may be prompted for an available upgrade. Click Upgrade Now to perform the upgrade.
2. From the Workstation user interface, select Help > Software Updates.
3. Download the full installer from VMware, and run the installer to perform the installation. To download VMware Workstation Pro, Downloading VMware Workstation Pro.
4. Review Upgrade Workstation Pro on a Windows Host
5. Review Upgrade Workstation Pro on a Linux Host

Post-Upgrade

1. Upgrade the virtual machine hardware version:

1. 1. Click Upgrade Hardware version on the Virtual Machine Summary page. You can also select VM > Manage > Change Hardware Compatibility.
   2. Follow the steps in the Wizard and click Finish when the process is complete.

     2. Power on the virtual machine and update VMware Tools:

1. 1. Click VM > Update VMware Tools. The VMware Tools installation Wizard starts in the virtual machine.
   2. Follow the steps in the Wizard and click Finish when the process is complete.
   3. Restart the virtual machine.
