Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Deploying a PAN VM-series (VM-1000-HV) with NSX for vSphere 6.1.3 on an ESXi host cluster fails
  • The installation status displays as Failed in the Service Deployments tab
  • You see the error:

Agent is not deployed due to incompatible host

Environment

VMware NSX for vSphere 6.1.x

Cause

This issue occurs because during the PANORAMA and NSX Manager registration process, information such as ESXi host version and OVF URL are exchanged between the two components. Only the VMware ESXi 5.5 information is exchanged with the above product versions. VMware ESXi 6.0 information is missing, which causes the PAN VM-series (VM-1000-HV) deployment to fail.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, manually fill out the required information in the deployment specification.

To manually fill out the required information in the deployment specification:

  1. From the NSX Manager, navigate to NSX Home > Service Definitions > Palo Alto Networks NGFW > Manage > Settings > Deployment.
  2. Click the green (+) button and enter these information in the Edit Deployment Specification window:
    • ESX Versions - 6.0.*
    • OVF URL - location of the OVF (For example: http://10.33.83.162:8080/PA-VM-NSX-6.1.2.ovf)
  3. Click OK to validate the entries. The 6.0.* entry should appear in the Deployment Specification list.
  4. Return to NSX Home > Installation > Service Deployments and click on the red alarm icon in the Installation Status column of the Service Deployments tab.
  5. Select Resolve in the System Alarm window.
  6. Installation Status should change to Succeeded with a green checkbox.
