Issue/Introduction

This article provides information about memory consumption in the latest versions of vSAN and provides example scenarios.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi (All Versions)

VMware vSAN (All Versions)

Resolution

Select a vSAN-enabled cluster, then on the right, select the Monitor tab and then under vSAN -> Support > Performance for Support > SHOW SPECIFIED HOSTS > select hosts / resource pools > Memory > vSAN Memory > Memory




Prospective vSAN customers may use the sizing tool to estimate memory consumption - see https://vcf.broadcom.com/tools/vsansizer/ for details.

  • The vsansizer shows memory consumption per node after entering a workload
  • To show vSAN memory overhead, use the reverse sizer feature per below:
  1. Login to https://vcf.broadcom.com/tools/vsansizer/
    Rrequired: Broadcom account 
  2. Go to vSAN ReadyNode Sizer Quick Sizer (https://vcf.broadcom.com/tools/vsansizer/reversesizer)
  3. Enter the required number of disk groups & capacity disks, select deduplication & compression setting as appropriate
