Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to assign VMware NSX for vSphere 6.x permissions.

Symptoms:

  • The Networking & Security section in the vSphere Web Client no longer appears after pairing NSX Manager to vCenter Server

Environment

VMware NSX for vSphere 6.1.x
VMware NSX for vSphere 6.0.x
VMware NSX for vSphere 6.3.x
VMware NSX for vSphere 6.4.x
VMware NSX for vSphere 6.2.x

Cause

This issue occurs because only the service account that is used to pair NSX Manager to vCenter Server is granted Enterprise Administrator rights to NSX components. If a different service account is used to log in via the vSphere Web Client other than the one that was used to pair NSX Manager with vCenter Server, then this issue is seen.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, assign NSX permissions to the account that is defined via the vCenter Server.

To assign NSX permissions to the account that is defined via the vCenter Server:
  1. Login to vCenter Server using the service account used to pair the NSX Manager to vCenter Server.
  2. Click Networking & Security.
  3. Select NSX Managers.
  4. Select the IP address of the NSX Manager.
  5. Select Manage > Users.
  6. Assign NSX permissions to any account that is defined via the vCenter Server.
