The VMware VirtualCenter Server service does not start due to insufficient disk space

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Cannot start VMware VirtualCenter Server service
• In the vpxd.log file located at C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\Logs\, you see backtraces similar to:

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x

Cause

This issue occurs because vCenter Server does not have sufficient hard disk space to be allocated for the buffer.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, create free space in vCenter Server.

To create free space in vCenter Server:

• Remove unwanted files from vCenter Server.
• Expand hard disk if vCenter Server is a virtual machine. For more information, see Increasing the size of a virtual disk (1004047).
