Connecting vSphere Client to VMware vCenter Server or VMware ESXi Server to install vSphere Client fails with an Untrusted Installer alert

Issue/Introduction

  • When downloading the vSphere Client software from VMware vCenter Server or VMware ESXi/ESX Server, you see an Untrusted Installer alert.
  • The Untrusted Installer alert states:

    The downloaded vSphere Client installer is not from a trusted provider, or the trust cannot be verified. Using this software in your environment is not recommended. Contact VMware Support for assistance.

    To proceed with the installation, click Yes. To cancel installation, click No.


Cause

This issue occurs due to one of these reasons:

  • vSphere Client binary being installed is old.
  • Untrusted or corrupt digital signature in the binary.
  • Expired signing certificate.
  • Unverifiable Certificate Revocation List (CRL) check.
  • Signing certificate is found in the Revocation List.


Resolution

To resolve this issue, when the Untrusted Installer alert displays, click No.
