Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • When using vCenter Server 5.1 GA, the vSphere 5.1 Single Sign-On (SSO) installation fails with the error:

    Error 29133. Administrator login error.
     
  • When using all versions after vCenter Server 5.1 GA, the vSphere 5.1 SSO installation fails with errors similar to:
     
    • Error 29102: An invalid argument was provided
    • Error 29158.Node package creation error
       
  • The vminst.log file displays errors similar to:

    Note: The vminst.log file is located in the Temp directory:
     
    • For Windows 2008, the vminst.log file is located at: C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Temp
    • For Windows 2003, the vminst.log file is located at: C:\Windows\Temp

  • The install.log file (located at: sso_install_dir\utils\logs\install.log)contains errors similar to:

    vCenter_Server_Name ERROR: Unable to generate HA node package: Failed to initialize crypto.
    com.rsa.tools.common.action.exception.CLUExitException: Unable to generate HA node package: Failed to initialize crypto.
       
        Caused by: java.security.spec.InvalidKeySpecException: Password is not ASCII


        Environment

        VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x
        VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x

        Cause

        This issue occurs when you use certain special characters in the SSO administrators password.

        Resolution

        This is a known issue. Currently, there is no resolution.
        To work around this issue, avoid using these special characters in the SSO administrators password:
         
        • ^
        • *
        • $
        • ;
        • "
        • '
        • )
        • <
        • >
        • &
        • |
        • \
        • _
        • #
        • =
        • A trailing " " space
        • Non-ASCII characters
        Note: The password must have at least:
          • Eight characters
          • One special character
          • One lowercase character
          • One uppercase character
          • One number
