vSphere Web Client fails to install with the error: Error 25005. Setup failed to generate the SSL keys

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• The vSphere Web Client fails to install.
• You see the error:
  
  Error 25005. Setup failed to generate the SSL keys


• In the vminst.log file, you see entries similar to:

Note: The vminst.log file is located in the Temp directory:

• In Windows 2008 - C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Temp
• In Windows 2003- C:\Windows\Temp

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the installer does not have adequate permissions.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, ensure User Access Control is not enabled in the Windows operating system.

To ensure User Access Control is not enabled in the Windows operating system:

1. Reinstall the Web Client. For more information, see Installing the vSphere Web Client (2032890).
2. Rerun autorun.exe.
3. To launch autorun, run as an administrator.
   
   Note: If autorun fails after running as an administrator, manually copy openssl.exe to C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\vSphereWebClient\ and rerun the installer.
   
   
4. Verify User Access Control is not enabled in the Windows operating system.
