Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must uninstall VMware Tools from a Mac OS X guest:

  1. In the guest, navigate to /Library/Application Support/VMware Tools.
  2. Run Uninstall VMware Tools.app.
  3. Delete these files and folders if they exist:

Note: not all files and folders listed will be present depending on the version of OS X being used as the guest OS:

    /Library/Application Support/VMware Tools
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vmware.launchd.vmware-tools-userd.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vmware.launchd.tools.plist
    /sbin/mount_vmhgfs
    /System/Library/Extensions/VMwareGfx.kext

  4. Restart the Mac OS guest.

Once the guest has restarted, you can install VMware Tools again.:
  1. In Fusion, go to Virtual Machine > Install VMware Tools.
