Issue/Introduction

You can prevent Fusion from automatically detecting and displaying the Boot Camp partition in Fusion 3.x and later.

Note: Fusion 1.x and 2.x do not support preventing the auto-detection of a Boot Camp partition.

Environment

VMware Fusion 3.x
VMware Fusion 5.x
VMware Fusion 7.x
VMware Fusion Pro 11.x
VMware Fusion 10.x
VMware Fusion 8.x
VMware Fusion 11.x
VMware Fusion 6.x
VMware Fusion 4.x
VMware Fusion Pro 10.x
VMware Fusion Pro 8.x

Resolution

To prevent the automatic detection/display of the Boot Camp partition in Fusion, delete the entry from Fusion's Virtual Machine Library.

To delete the entry:
  1. Ensure that the Boot Camp partition is not running ("Powered on") in Fusion.
  2. In Fusion, go to Window > Virtual Machine Library.
  3. Right-click the Boot Camp partition entry in the Library, and click Delete.
  4. When prompted, select Move To Trash. This deletes the files which Fusion created to launch the Boot Camp partition. It does not affect the Boot Camp partition.
To re-add the Boot Camp partition into the Virtual Machine Library:

In Fusion 10.x,8.x, 7.x, 6.x and 5.x:
  1. Right-click the VMware Fusion icon in the dock and click Virtual Machine Library.
  2. Click Add + button at the upper left corner in the Virtual Machine Library.
  3. Select New Boot Camp.
In Fusion 4.x:
  1. Go to Window > Virtual Machine Library in the Apple menu bar.
  2. At the bottom of the Library, select Run Boot Camp.
Note: If you are not seeing Run Boot Camp option in Virtual Machine Library, then it means that you do not have a physical Boot Camp partition on your Mac.

In Fusion 3.x:
  1. Go to Window > Virtual Machine Library in the Apple menu bar.
  2. In the column on the left side, select Home.
  3. In the column on the right side, select Run Windows from your Boot Camp partition.
