Issue/Introduction

  • In brownfield deployments, the VCF Operations 9.1.x Admin UI displays the cluster node IP address instead of the expected Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) in the Node Address column.
  • Management services, including SDDC and Fleet LCM, remain fully deployed and operational

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1.x
  • Brownfield environments (migrated or imported deployments)

Cause

This is a cosmetic display issue originating from the environment configuration during the initial brownfield onboarding process. The appliance identity was established using the IP address during that phase, which persists in the Admin UI display. This issue does not indicate a failure or misconfiguration of VCF Management Services (such as SDDC or Fleet LCM), which continue to rely on correct internal FQDN validations despite the UI display.

Resolution

If VCF Management Services are fully deployed and operational, and the discrepancy does not impact functionality, no action is required.

Important Warning: Do not attempt to modify hostnames or IP addresses at the appliance level to resolve this cosmetic display issue. Attempting to change these values carries significant risks, including:
  • Certificate mismatches.
  • Breakage of the JWKS token trust store.
  • Cascading validation failures across the management suite.
  • Reversion of custom fixes previously applied during onboarding.
  • Upgrade or deployment failures

Additional Information

Recommendations:

  1. Ensure that VCF Management Services (SDDC and Fleet LCM) are fully operational.
  2. Utilize the primary VCF Operations UI for daily operations, as the legacy Admin UI may not reflect the latest environment status.
  3. Monitor official product release notes for future updates that address cosmetic display discrepancies.
