Configuring the user account lockout duration in ESXi

Issue/Introduction

This article provides instructions on how to configure the account lockout duration for local users on an ESXi host.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi

Resolution

The account lockout time is controlled by the ESXi advanced system setting: Security.AccountUnlockTime

The default value is 900 seconds (15 minutes).

To modify this setting via the vSphere Client:

1. Select the ESXi host in the inventory.

2. Navigate to Configure > System > Advanced System Settings.

3. Click Edit and filter for Security.AccountUnlockTime.

4. Enter the desired value in seconds and click OK.
