"Failed to logout during exit" appears in the vCenter Server log

Issue/Introduction

When terminating a session (exit/logout) after performing operations via SSH or console on a vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA), the following error message may be logged:

cli: root Failed to logout during exit: <ProtocolError for localhost:8201/applmgmt/RPC2: 401 Unauthorized>

Cause

This issue occurs when a logout/exit command is issued to a session that has already been terminated or invalidated (e.g., due to a session timeout).

Resolution

There is no functional impact on the system.

This message is classified as cosmetic and can be safely ignored.
