* Hardware virtualization is enabled in the source and destination physical host BIOS settings

*  Symptoms:

  • Error message: Module CPUID power on failed.

  • Error message: The source detected that the destination failed to resume.

  • Error message: The VM failed to resume on the destination during early power on.

  • In vmware.log: [msg.cpuid.noVHVQuestion] followed by a failure to initialize the VMX process on the target host.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi

VMware vCenter Server

Resolution

VMware Engineering Team is aware of the issue and working to identify the cause of the issue. Please collect ESXi log bundle and file a Support request if you experience the issue.

As a workaround, you could Power Cycle the VM and also consider disabling the "Expose hardware assisted virtualization to the guest OS" option for the VM (Edit Settings).
