"Sync updates" and "Download patch definitions" Errors Logged on an Offline vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

An error occurs during the "Sync updates" task on vCenter Server.
An error occurs during the "Download patch definitions" task on vCenter Server.
The vCenter Server is in an offline environment.
The following message is logged:
A general system error occurred: A depot is inaccessible or has invalid contents. Make sure an official depot source is used and verify connection to the depot.

Environment

vCenter Server 7.0, vCenter Server 8.0

Cause

This message is logged in an offline environment.

Resolution

You can suppress the error message by following the steps below.

1. Log in to the vSphere Client and open Menu > Lifecycle Manager.
2. Select Settings > Patch Download.
3. Click the "EDIT" button, uncheck "Download Patches," and save.
4. Select Settings > Patch Setup.
5. Select each download source one by one and click "DISABLE" for all of them.
