Issue/Introduction

• You are converting an Existing vCenter to VCF by Importing the vCenter to Create a Workload Domain with VCF Operations in 9.x.
  
  
• VCF operations > VCF instance > Add Workload domain > Import a vCenter 

• The operation fails at prechecks with the error -

The vCenter Server virtual machine is not connected to a distributed virtual port group or the dvpg has an association with non management traffic type for vcenter_fqdn. Please ensure the vCenter Server virtual machine is connected to a distributed virtual port group (dvpg) and the dvpg is not associated with non-management traffic type.

Environment

VCF 9.x

Cause

• The vCenter VM is configured within the Management domain, but it is not part of the VM_Management port group. Rather resides on a user-defined VM port groups.
  
  
• User-defined VM port groups are excluded from the SDDC Manager inventory during the import process, and as a result, SDDC Manager ignores the other VM networks during validation. 
  
  
• Hence, the prechecks to validate if vCenter Server virtual machine is not connected to a distributed virtual port group or the dvpg has an association with non management traffic type fails.

Resolution

A precheck has been added to ensure the vCenter Server VM is connected to a Distributed Virtual Port Group and not a Standard Switch (see KB 414323). This validation applies to two scenarios:

1. The vCenter is collocated within the cluster it manages.

2. The vCenter is not collocated, residing in the Management Domain.

If the vCenter is not collocated, it must be attached to a port group managed by the Management vCenter for this validator to succeed.
