Issue/Introduction

What is the process for stopping and starting the EDR container version in a clustered setup?

Environment

  • Carbon Black EDR Server: All Supported Versions
  • Docker Container

Resolution

Starting

  1. Start each minion node individually.
    ./edr-docker start
  2. Start the primary last.
    ./edr-docker start

Stopping

  1. Stop the primary first.
    ./edr-docker stop
  2. Stop the minions individually.
    ./edr-docker stop

Additional Information

  • The primary server will reach out to each minion node to start up the cluster services.
  • When restarting the services, only the primary needs to be stopped as it handles the services for the minion nodes. The container on the minion nodes does not need to be stopped in that case.
  • If a minion container is down, the primary will be unable to start or stop services as it waits for the minion to respond.
