Issue/Introduction

  • An Adapter instance not receiving data alert is triggered in VMware Aria Operations (formerly vRealize Operations).

  • The logs show the error "Failed to create the endpoint details" frequently, which prevents the adapter from collecting data from multiple vCenter endpoints.  This issue has been observed in Aria Operations Cloud Proxy servers running the Configuration Management adapter. The logs associated with the error are located at /log/adapters/ConfigAdapter/ConfigAdapter_xxxx.log.
  • You may see frequent entries like below in the logs:
ERROR [Collector worker thread] com.vmware.adapter3.vcf.unifiedconfig.endpoint.VCenterEndpoint.createEndpoint - Failed to create the endpoint details
ERROR [Collector worker thread] com.vmware.adapter3.vcf.unifiedconfig.endpoint.VCenterEndpoint.createEndpoint - Failed to create the endpoint details for [vCenter-Server]
  • The Collection Status for the affected adapters remains "None", even after manually stopping and starting the collection from the UI.

Environment

Aria 8.18.x

Resolution

The recommended solution to resolve this issue is to put the cluster offline and then back online via the Aria Operations UI.

  1. Take the cluster offline.

  2. Wait for the status to update.

  3. Bring the cluster back online.

Note: If after rebooting the cluster you no longer see "Adapter instance not receiving data" alert and "Collection Status" is "OK" but you are still seeing the alert "Failed to create the endpoint details" in the /log/adapters/ConfigAdapter/ConfigAdapter_xxxx.log the error can be safely ignored.
