Issue/Introduction

  • Logical Switches seen in Manager mode show as Operational status: Fail
  • Policy mode shows the segment as successful and there are no reports of any network connectivity issues.
  • Newly created Logical Switches have no issues and show correct status in Policy/Manager Mode
  • When using this command as root in NSX Manager #corfu_tool_runner.py -n nsx -t LogicalSwitchState -o showTable > LSS.txt, all the associated VDS PortGroup are in SUCCESS state.

Environment

VMware NSX 4.2.0

Resolution

This is a known issue impacting VMware NSX 4.2.0 and is fixed in NSX 4.2.1

Workaround
  • Go to the Segment/LogicalSwitch with this issue on Manager UI and edit the Segment/LogicalSwitch to update the Description field (see screenshot attached for reference).

  • You can just added a whitespace at the end and remove it and save the Segment.
  • This should cause the LS state to turn into IN_PROGRESS and fix the "stateStatus" field to CONFIG_STATUS_SUCCESS.

Additional Information

Same symptoms can also be seen if hitting another known issue as explained in KB: Logical Switches in failed state upon upgrade to VMware NSX 4.1.x
