Issue/Introduction

The newly deployed VMs are experiencing packet drops. VMs in the same hosts have no packet drops, but VMs from one host to the next have packet drops.

Tests with MTU of 1774 shows that entire frame is not received by the RX VMs.

The MTU set on uplink profile of ESXi hosts was 9000 as shown below

Environment

NSX 3.x

Cause

The MTU was set to 1500 on switch ports (uplink switches) connected to uplinks of ESXi hosts (vmnicX). The End-to-End MTU is to be consistent and set to allow jumbo frames.

Resolution

Updated MTU on the switch ports to which ESXi uplinks were connected to 9000 then vmkping between TEP interfaces of ESXi hosts was OK.
