Issue/Introduction

  •  After the update of VMware tools 12.5.1 on a Windows 2022 Server, you are seeing domain network connectivity issues.
  •  When you go to update it to latest version, after reboot it seems the network profile shifts to public as it cannot communicate to the domain on boot up.
  • Windows event logs shows event id 5719 "

"This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain <name> due to the following:
We can't sign you in with this credential because your domain isn't available. Make sure your device is connected to your organization's network and try again. If you previously signed in on this device with another credential, you can sign in with that credential.
This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that this computer is connected to the network. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator.

    ADDITIONAL INFO
If this computer is a domain controller for the specified domain, it sets up the secure session to the primary domain controller emulator in the specified domain. Otherwise, this computer sets up the secure session to any domain controller in the specified domain."

Environment

  • VMware Tools 12.5.1

Resolution

  • To resolve this issue, update the VMware Tools to 13.0.0 or higher, which includes the vmxnet3 driver version 1.9.20.

Workaround:

If a lower version of VMware Tools is in use with the vmxnet3 driver version 1.9.19, a workaround is to manually install the vmxnet3 driver version 1.9.20 from the Microsoft Windows Catalog.
