NSX Edge HA failover triggered Edge Bridge failover to Standby Edge.

Issue/Introduction

Edge Node HA failover was triggered when TEP tunnels to the Active Edge were marked down. Tunnel ###.###.###.### (geneve) state updated from up to down

  • Newly Active Edge node reports the following messages in /var/log/syslog:
    • Tunnel ###.###.###.### (geneve) state updated from up to down
    • HA tunnel ###.###.###.###:###.###.###.### state changed from Concat Path Down to Unreachable
  • The bridge node failover is logged in a message similar to:
    • bridge ########-####-####-####-############ attached to VNI lswitch ########-####-####-####-############ state changed from Standby to Active

Resolution

This is expected behavior when the tunnel state between NSX Edge nodes is marked down due to physical networking issues or other events interrupting traffic between the Edge node and all connected tunnel endpoints.
