NSX Fails to Install on ESXi Host "Failed to query file system stats: Errors:"

Issue/Introduction

While attempting to install NSX onto an ESXi host, the installation fails with the following error message:

Failed to install software on host. Failed to install software on host. ######### : java.rmi.RemoteException: [InstallationError] Failed to query file system stats: Errors: Cannot open volume: cause = Errors: Cannot open volume: Please refer to the log file for more details.

Cause

There may be an issue with the datastore presentation on the ESXi Host which is preventing the VIB installation for NSX.

Resolution

• In some instances there may be some stale data preventing the installation from occurring and to provide the most up to date information for the ESXi hosts storage perform the process below:

1. 1. Open an SSH session the ESXi host and run the command esxcli storage filesystem list and ensure the datastores are listed as mounted (under the Mounted column it will be listed as True, if the datastore is not showing as mounted, please open a ticket with VMware by Broadcom's storage team)
   2. Remove the ESXi host from the NSX cluster
   3. Rescan the storage, refer to Performing a rescan of the storage on an ESXi host
   4. Re-add the ESXi host into the NSX cluster
   5. Attempt the install again
   6. If the Install Failed message is still present, the error may need to be marked as "Resolved". Refer to the steps below:

• Marking the error as "Resolved" to begin the installation again:

1. 1. From the System tab click on Fabric then Hosts
   2. Expand the cluster where the ESXi host is
   3. Click on Install Failed 
      
   4. Select Resolve 
      
      
   5. Select the checkbox by Error in the upper left hand corner and click the RESOLVE button
