Issue/Introduction

  • The existing 2-node vSAN cluster currently has the "Evaluation License" applied.
  • The new license to be applied is a vSAN Standard License and when the new license is selected in the "Assign License" Wizard, you see a message similar to the below:

Environment

VMware vSAN (All versions).

Cause

The information in the warning shows the differences between the evaluation license features coverage and the coverage of the new license to be added, even though the features are not currently in use in the selected cluster.

Resolution

Confirm that the features listed in the warning are not currently in use in the selected cluster and apply the license through the "Assign License" Wizard, as per Configure License Settings for a vSAN Cluster.

Important Note:

2-node vSAN clusters can be deployed as a stretched cluster with any vSAN license edition.

The logic behind the 2-node vSAN cluster is different than a stretched cluster with 3 or more data nodes, and has coverage with the vSAN Standard License even though "Streched Cluster enabled" is seen on the vSAN Fault Domains.
