The vCenter upgrade was stuck at 50% on stage 2

Issue/Introduction

The vCenter upgrade was stuck at 50% on stage 2.

• The source vCenter appliance had shutdown.
• Both vCenter public IP and temporary IP were assigned to target vCenter, but neither IP was accessible.

Environment

vCenter 7.0

vCenter 8.0

Cause

There were some network issues with the target vCenter appliance or the target host.

Resolution

In this situation, it's suggested to attempt:

• Disconnect then connect the network for the target vCenter appliance.
• vMotion the target vCenter to another host.

If the stuck had kept long time, the upgrade process may be difficult to continue after network was resumed.

Then the upgrade operation should be restarted.
