Issue/Introduction

  • On the Summary page of ESXI Image profile version and build version of ESXI is not the same.
  • Image profile version is older which is not showing upgraded or same as ESXI build.

 

From CLI:

  • Command: esxcli system version get

Cause

This issue can occur due to the following.

  • Corrupt "imgdb.tgz" image database file in /bootbank and /altbootbank location of ESXI.
  • Upgraded ESX to 8.0 via unsupported method (e.g., using “esxcli software install vib”).

Resolution

To work around this issue, reinstall the ESXi host or copy the "imgdb.tgz" file from the other working ESXi host.

To work around this issue, use one of these options:

  • Rebuild the ESXi host.

    OR

  • Replace corrupted "imgdb.tgz" file with working file from other working ESX host.
    • Copy the "imgdb.tgz" file from an ESX host which is in working condition and showing correct image profile.

      Note : Copy the corrupted or older imgdb.tgz file in any /tmp location as a backup before remove.

    • Remove the older imgdb.tgz file from /bootbank and /altbootbank location of ESXI.
    • Copy the "imgdb.tgz" file from working ESXI host to non working in same location that is /bootbank and /altbootbank.
    • Restart the ESXi host.
