Issue/Introduction

This article outlines steps required when the creation of an Infrastructure Policy for Data Services Manager Plugin in vSphere Client fails with the error: 'Error: cannot invoke "vmware.tdm.sp.plugin.vc.PathObject.isGroupHead()" because "obj" is null'

Environment

VCF and Data Services Manager (DSM) 2.1

Cause

This issue occurs because the data centers object in vCenter has been renamed to something other than default 'Datacenters'.

Resolution

In order to rename data center object in vCenter back to default and unblock creation of Infrastructure Policy for DSM user should:

1. Connect to Managed Object Browser (MOB) by accessing https://vcenter-fqdn/mob via browser

2. Login with [email protected] credentials

3. Click on 'content'

4. On new page locate 'rootFolder' and click on 'group-d1'

 

5. Locate and click 'Rename_Task' hyperlink on the next view

6. In the small windows that pops up insert 'Datacenters' (without quotes) and click on 'Invoke Method'

7. Create new Infrastructure Policy
