Issue/Introduction

  • Managing or deleting a vApp or virtual machine(VM) fails with the following error:

Details: [ ########-####-####-####-############ ] validation error on field 'name': String value has invalid format, value: [ vApp/vm Name]

  • The name of the vApp or VM starts or ends with a space character.
  • Removing the space character may fail with the below error:

[ ########-####-####-####-############ ] Folder vApp Name (########-####-####-####-############) does not exist in our inventory, but vCenter Server claims that it does.

  • When deleting the vApp, the folder may not exist in the vCenter inventory.
  • When deleting the vApp, there may be no VMs within the vApp.
  • Delete and few other options for the vApp or VM may be greyed out.
  • Creating an Incoming Replication in VMware Cloud Director Availability (VCDA) for a VM or vApp that starts or ends with a space character fails with the error:

Could not compose a runtime vApp for vApp replication with id 'C4VAPP-########-####-####-####-############'.
