Issue/Introduction

Error message displayed in the vSphere client: 

"Cannot complete the configuration of the vSphere HA agent on the host. Applying HA VIBs on the cluster encountered a failure". 

Failed installing HA component on the host: host-8 An error occurred while downloading depot metadata from  http://fqdn:9084/vum/repository/hostupdate/__micro-depot__vendor-vmw__vmw-ESXi-8.0.2-metadata__index__.xml. 

Failed installing HA component on the host: host-18 An error occurred while downloading depot metadata from  http://fqdn:9084/vum/repository/hostupdate/__micro-depot__vendor-vmw__vmw-ESXi-8.0.2-metadata__index__.xml. 

Failed installing HA component on the host: host-14 An error occurred while downloading depot metadata from  http://fqdn:9084/vum/repository/hostupdate/__micro-depot__vendor-vmw__vmw-ESXi-8.0.2-metadata__index__.xml.

Environment

vCenter server 8.0.3

ESXi 8.0.3

Cause

  1. vCenter server was unable to resolve the DNS query.
  2. DNS query resulted as NXDOMAIN.

dnsmasq.log:

       3. /etc/resolv.conf file is missing on ESXi hosts.

Resolution

  1. Validate the DNS server connection and availability.
  2. Enter the correct DNS entry in VAMI.
  3. Add the missing DNS server in ESXi hosts /etc/resolv.conf file.

Additional Information

The DNS entry can be validated in the below file location in the vCenter Server. The DNS entry can be updated in this file or from the VAMI.
