Issue/Introduction

  • ESXI upgrading failing on vum install step in SDDC manager with error message:

    Progress Messages: VUM Remediation (installation) of an ESXi host failed.
    Error  Message: VUM Remediation (installation) of an ESXi host failed.
    Remediation Message: High: VUM Remediation (Installation) of an ESXI host failed. Manual intervention needed as upgrade failed during install stage. Check for errors in the Icm log files located on SDDC Manager under /var/log/vmware/vcf/icm. Please retry the upgrade once the upgrade is available again.

  • From the /var/log/esxupdate.log of ESXi the ESXi host has been updated to the latest version successfully:

    In(14) esxupdate[2206398]: All done

  • Checking the profile of ESXi image indicates the host was upgraded to new version:

    For example:

    [root@esxi] esxcli software profile get
    (Updated) ESXi-8.0U1a-21813344-standard
       Name: (Updated) ESXi-8.0U1a-21813344-standard
       Creation Time: 2024-05-20T10:39:41
       Modification Time: 2024-05-20T14:00:50

Additional Information

When esxi host which is part of sddc ,patched manually using esxcli commands, the database in sddc manager should be updated with new version of esxi with the help of the steps in Resolution Section
