Issue/Introduction

How to see if a scan is currently running, either from the local client UI for SEP, or from the SESC (ICDm) console?

Resolution

Locally, this is the best place to look to see if a scan is running:

  1. Launch the agent UI
  2. Click the View Logs option
  3. Under Virus and Spyware Protection, click View Logs > Scan logs
  4. The bottom line will be the most recent scan. If it has not completed, you'll see the completed field not yet populated, but the start date will be very recent.

In the console, this can be done within the computer's activity record. The following string will give you the right details:
Scan Type:2-Scheduled

  1. Under devices, find the device you are curious about.
  2. Click on the device name to bring up that device's properties.
  3. Click on the Activity History tab (under More if you don't see it).
  4. In the filter section, paste in Scan Type:2-Scheduled
  5. Hit enter, and you'll see the events.
  6. If you see a very recent start event that does not have an end event, the scan is running.
