Issue/Introduction

Help successfully restore NSX-T Manager.


Symptoms:

While restoring NSX-T Manager 4.x you may encounter the following error messages:

"Error: upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. reset reason: connection termination (Error code: 503)" 
 

The above error may disappear after a while. Restore process will continue and then it will get stuck at Restore process failed, as show below:
Error copying inventory backup file from/to remote/local server: {/upload/NSX-ESX-R/inventory-summary/4.0.0.1.0.20159694-<UUID>-<IP Address>/inventory-<date&time>UTC.json=/image/backup/cluster/inventory_backup.json}.

Please follow workaround process.


Workaround:
  1. Access the newly deployed NSX-T Manager via CLI.
  2. Move to Engineering mode using st eng and provide root credentials.
  3. Move to folder /image/backup/cluster/
  4. Connect to sftp server using sftp credentials sftp <username>@<sftpserver>
  5. Move to the folder where your inventory file is located /<sftppath>/inventory-summary/4.x.x.x.xxxx-<UUID>/inventory-<date>.json
  6. Execute the command get inventory-<date>.json, hit enter.
  7. Type exit and hit enter. (This will get the file copied over to the NSX-T Manager).
  8. Rename the inventory file, mv inventory<date>.json inventory_backup.json
  9. Go to NSX-T UI > System > Backup & Restore and hit retry this time restore will complete successfully. 
  10. Follow restore procedure as usual. 


Additional Information

Impact/Risks:

NSX-T Manager cannot be restored.
