Issue/Introduction
Symptoms: When using the vSphere Client to edit a virtual machine with hardware version 10 through the vCenter Server or directly to the ESXi host prior to Update 2, you experience these symptoms:
You are unable to edit the settings of a virtual machine on hardware version 10
Prior to the vSphere Client or vCenter Server with build number 1993072, you cannot edit the settings of a virtual machine on hardware version 10
You see the error:
You cannot use the vSphere client to edit the settings of virtual machines of version 10 or higher. Use the vSphere Web Client to edit the settings of this virtual machine.
Cause
This issue occurs because editing the settings of a virtual machine running hardware version 10 is supported only with the vSphere Web Client 5.5 prior to vSphere 5.5 Update 2.
