Troubleshooting vCenter/vSAN Adapter Collection Failures in VMware Aria Operations

Issue/Introduction

• Scheduled reports show blank entries or displays -.

• Dashboards display no metrics or visual data.

• The Inventory view in the Home Page is not loading as expected.

• The status of the adapter instance is "Warning".

• Blank page appears when navigating to Capacity → Assess

• Collection Notification flags an adapter with an "Object down" error

• The following Administrative Alerts are displayed:
  Adapter instance Object is down
Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance

• Hovering over the warning status displays an "Object Down" error caused by a "Certificate validation failed" message.

• Hovering over the warning status displays an "Object Down" error caused by an "Unable to connect due to invalid username or password" message.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

Aria Operations lost connection to the endpoint due to an expired/renewed certificate or invalid credentials.

Resolution

1. Verify that the certificate on the endpoint is not expired before proceeding. Renew certificate on endpoint if required, by following vendor documentation for replacing certificate on endpoint.
2. Follow procedure in KB article How to renew an adapter certificate or clear the Expired Certificates banner in Aria Operations to import new certificate from endpoint.
3. Verify that adapter credentials assigned to the adapter is correct.  Refer to documentation Manage Credentials
