Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • An HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen9 Server running ESXi 5.5/6.0/6.5 displays error message in the event log:

The ramdisk 'tmp' is full. As a result, the file /tmp/auto-backup.1619198/local.tgz could not be written.

  • In the hostd.log, you see messages similar to:

Cause:

The issue occurs when /tmp/ahs.debug grows until the /tmp/ disk is full.

Resolution

This is known issue affecting HPE ProLiant server. For more information, see HPE advisory:

To work around this issue:

  1. Follow the steps described in the advisory to stop the AMS service on the host.
  2. Copy the file /tmp/ahs.debug to a different location to take a backup of the file.
  3. Zero the file /tmp/ahs.debug by entering the following bash command:
    $ > /tmp/ahs.debug​
