Issue/Introduction

/var/log disk usage is high on an active Edge.

Environment

VMware NSX for vSphere 6.x

Cause

This occurs because the file /var/log/btmp (which keeps track of failed login attempts) is filling up the partition and is not rotating.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware NSX Data Center for vSphere 6.4.5

To workaround this issue, disable SSH. Since btmp records failed login attempts, disabling SSH will prevent such failed logins.

Additional Information

#FixedInVersion: NSX 6.4.5

Impact/Risks:
Edge /var/log partition is full and can potentially lead to data plane impact.
