Issue/Introduction

How to free up disk space on Spectrum SpectroSERVER, OneClick and Spectrum Report Manager (SRM) systems.

My servers are running out of disk space.  What files can I remove to free up space?

Environment

Release : All Supported Releases

Component : SPCCSS - SpectroSERVER Core / SPCOCK - Spectrum OneClick / SPCRPT - Spectrum Report Manager (SRM)

Resolution

The following are some recommendations on where disk space can be freed up on the Spectrum SpectroSERVER, OneClick and Spectrum Report Manager (SRM) systems:

OneClick:

1. Search for and delete any *.hprof files within the $SPECROOT/tomcat directory structure

2. Delete install log directories inside the $SPECROOT/Install-Tools/LOGS directory. These files are only needed if there was an issue with the install.

3. Delete old *.log, *.out and *.txt files from the $SPECROOT/tomcat/logs directory

SpectroSERVER:

1. On Linux, search for and delete any core* files within the $SPECROOT directory

2. On Windows, delete all *.dmp and *.mdmp files from the $SPECROOT/SS/support directory

3. On Linux, delete all *.dmp files from the $SPECROOT/SS/support directory

4. Delete old $SPECROOT/SS/VNM.OUT* files

5. Delete old $SPECROOT/SS/DDM/ARCHMGR.OUT files

6. Delete old SpectroSERVER and Archive Manager backups from the backup directory. By default $SPECROOT/SS-DB-Backup directory

7. Re-initialize the SpectroSERVER database using the latest SpectroSERVER database backup

8. Retain fewer days of event data in the Archive Manager (DDM) database. This is done by modifying the value of the MAX_EVENT_DAYS parameter in the $SPECROOT/SS/DDM/.configrc and restarting the Archive Manager process. Default is 45 days worth of events.

Note: It is recommended to run the db_maintenance.pl and db_optimize.pl scripts after changing the value of the MAX_EVENT_DAYS parameter to free up the data in the events table of the DDM database.

9. Run the db_maintenance.pl and db_optimize.pl scripts periodically to maintain the health of the DDM database and free up disk space.

Please reference the "Database Maintenance and Optimization" section of the documentation for more information on the db_maintenance.pl and db_optimize.pl scripts.

Spectrum Report Manager (SRM):

4. Retain fewer days of events in the reporting database. This is done by modifying the "Data Retention Period (days) - Event Table" and "Data Retention Period (days) - Transformed Tables" parameters in the OneClick Administration -> Report Manager -> Preferences web page. By default both are 90 days.

5. Set the "Data Retention Policy" parameter in the OneClick Administration -> Report Manager -> Preferences web page to "purge".

6. Remove old reporting database backups from the OneClick Administration -> Report Manager -> "Manage Backups" page.

Additional Information

For all systems, ensure the ONLY application running on the system is the Spectrum application.

On Linux you can also use the 'du' command to help identify where the disk space is being taken.

# cd $SPECROOT/
# du -sh * | sort -h
