Issue/Introduction

Running onsite security testing with Java JRE, for Gen 8.5 and 8.6.
Which version of the JRE is needed for running Gen 8.5 or Gen 8.6 Java based components i.e. 32-bit or 64-bit?

Environment

Gen 8.5, 8.6 and JRE versions

Resolution

As a change to the now End Of Support Gen 8.5 version , Gen 8.6 delivers the 32-bit version of the JRE with the product for use with the Build Tool, Diagram Trace Utility (DTU) and Gen Studio per doc page: Gen™ 8.6 > Release Notes > Gen 8.6 GA Complete (8.6.2) > Gen Release 8.6 (see "Build Tool Enhancements")

The environment variable Gen86JRE is set to the installed location of the JRE.

The 32-Bit version of the JRE is delivered so that it will be compatible with all 3 Gen components Build Tool, Diagram Trace Utility (DTU) and Gen Studio..
Technically the Build Tool will can run with a 64-bit version of the JRE, but the other 2 components will not.

Additional Information

The version of the supplied JRE has changed over time via with Gen 8.6 PTFs.
