For CA Workload Automation CA 7 Edition, use the Datacom DBUTLTY BACKUP command to back up the database. If a restore is required, use the Datacom DBUTLTY LOAD command. Datacom supports many types of backups, with each type suited for a different purpose. For CA 7, the backups are known as Stable Backup and Hot Backup.
Stable Backup
Stable Backups are used for sites that are not concerned with recovering data to the point of failure. For example, a CA 7 in a test environment or a planned disaster recovery may require only a weekly backup since it is not require an up to the minute of failure.
For a stable backup use the JCL from CAL2JCL member AL2DBKUP. CA 7 must be down to run this backup as it requires exclusive access to the data.
To restore the stable backup, use CAL2JCL member AL2DLOAD.
Hot Backup
Hot Backups are used for sites that are concerned with recovering data up to the minute of point of failure. It is also for sites that do not want to stop CA 7 just to run a backup of their data.
It is recommended to use hot backup only if Datacom MUF has an option of LOGRCV set to NO and the recovery files are being generated using LXX Spilling.
To run the hot backup, use the JCL that is provided in CAL2JCL member AL2DBHOT. It is recommended to run AL2DBHOT nightly, preferably during a low period of CA 7 activity.
To restore from the hot backup, use the data output from the last AL2DBHOT job and restore using CAL2JCL member AL2DLOAD. Once this is completed, run the JCL that is in CAL2JCL member AL2DBREC using the spill files created by the last hot backup.
** NOTE ** Before restoring the hot backup for production data, call Broadcom Datacom support and Broadcom CA 7 support and open a severity one issue.
