Issue/Introduction

Concurrent licensing requires CodeMeter and Agile Designer to look for a licensing server. You will need to manually set up the licensing server and point CodeMeter instances to it. This licensing server will host the license for you while other users/machines will connect and use the license. They will not have to have a local license on their machine once configured. This document will provide steps on setting up the license server and the user machines to work with the license server.

Environment

Release : 2.10+

Component : CA Agile Requirements Designer

Resolution

Prerequisites for License Server:

One of the machines will need to act as the license server. This machine must be able to allow connections from other machines trying to access the license server. We recommend that this is a machine that is not restarted frequently.

  1. Download CA Agile Requirements Designer from CA Support Online.
  2. Install the product and all the prerequisites. CodeMeter will be required for this and it is installed as part of the prerequisites section the installation wizard.
  3. Request a concurrent license from the CA licensing team. Make sure that you mention you will need a concurrent license for X number of users. Directions on how to do this are listed here:
  4. Activate the concurrent license in the CodeMeter License Central WebDepot (if you have an online license) or CodeMeter Control Center if you have an offline license. Directions on how to do this are listed here:
  5. Once activated, for online licenses you will see 'AD_Concurrent' listed in the 'My Licenses' section of the CodeMeter License Central WebDepot. For offline licenses, in CodeMeter Control Center you will see that the number under the 'AgileDesigner' license container has changed to a number starting with '128-#######'.

  6. Ensure ports 22350 and 22351 are open between the license server and the user machine.

Set up the License Server:

  1. Launch CodeMeter Control Center (CC). The default location for this is C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin\CodeMeterCC.exe

  2. In the CodeMeterCC window, click on the 'WebAdmin' button in the bottom, right-hand corner.

  3. CodeMeter WebAdmin should open in your current browser and you will see it open to the 'Container' tab.

  4. Hover over the 'Configuration' tab and choose 'Server' from the list.

  5. Under the 'Server Access' tab, in the 'Network Server' box, click on the 'Enable' radio button.

  6. In that same tab, in the 'CmWAN Server' box, click on the 'Enable' radio button.

  7. Click the 'Apply' button.

  8. Return to the CodeMeterCC window. (C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin\CodeMeterCC.exe)

  9. Click the 'Process' tab.

  10. Choose the 'Restart CodeMeter Service' option.

  11. Once the service has restarted, launch ARD. If you are able to launch ARD, everything is set up successfully.

Prerequisites for User Machines:

  1. Download CA Agile Requirements Designer from CA Support Online.
  2. Install the product and all prerequisites. CodeMeter will be required for this and it is installed as part of the prerequisites section the installation wizard.

Set up the User Machines:

  1. In order for your machine to connect to the licensing server, and not look for a local license, you will need to have an empty CodeMeterCC window with no license containers.
Launch CodeMeter Control Center (CC) and verify you do not have any license containers.

    • The default location for this is C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin\CodeMeterCC.exe
    • If you have just installed the machine you may not have any.
    • If you do have license containers listed, you will need to delete those.
    • Here is a document outlining the steps on how to delete them:  Article 9592 - How to Delete Licenses for Agile Requirements Designer

  2. In the CodeMeterCC window, click on the 'WebAdmin' button in the bottom, right-hand corner.

  3. CodeMeter WebAdmin should open in your current browser, and you will see it open to the 'Container' tab.

  4. Click on the 'Configuration' tab.

  5. In the 'Server Search List' box, click on the '+ add new Server' option.

  6. In the text box, 'Enter the Server's name or IP-Address'.
