CA Agile Requirements Designer

Issue/Introduction

This document will explain how to:

  • Access the CodeMeter Control Center (CC).
  • Import the necessary license containers into CodeMeterCC.

The ActivationWizard.exe used to activate licenses CA Agile Requirements Designer, but it has been deprecated in Agile Designer 2.0.
It is still available under the installation folder, but it will no longer be used to activate Agile Designer licenses.

The ActivationWizard has been replaced with offline and online license activation through CodeMeter Control Center for ARD versions 2.0-2.6.
This license activation method requires certain license containers in order to request and apply Agile Designer licenses.

If you have never activated a license on your Agile Designer instance before, you will need to follow the instructions below before requesting and applying a license.
If you have ARD 2.7+, this is automatically done for you with the License Activation Wizard based on what type of license you choose to activate.

A license container is like a template for the ARD license key. In most cases, you want to have the 'AgileDesigner' license container.
All containers start with a '32767' number, and will have a gray icon next to them in CodeMeterCC.
License containers are needed when applying a new offline or online license.
For user machines with concurrent licenses, you will not need a license container.

With ARD 2.7+, this is deleted automatically in the License Activation Wizard when you use it to connect to a concurrent license server.
If you are using ARD 2.0-2.6, you will have to delete it manually.

Activated licenses for ARD all start with a '128' number, and will have a blue icon next to them in CodeMeterCC.

Importing License Containers to CodeMeter CC:

There are three ways to import the license containers to CodeMeter Control Center.

Option #1:

  1. Launch CodeMeter Control Center by one of the methods listed above.

  2. Click on the 'License' tab. If you have never applied a license before, or recently deleted a license or container, the list will be empty and you will see the message 'No CodeMeter License information available. No CmContainer found.'

  3. Click on the 'File' tab located in the toolbar.

  4. Choose 'Import License...' from the list.

  5. Navigate to the 'activation' folder in the Agile Designer installation directory.
The default location for this is C:\Program Files\Grid-Tools\AgileDesigner\activation.
If you installed ARD for the first time starting in ARD 2.5, you may have this file in this new default path C:\Program Files\CA\AgileDesigner\activation.

  6. Select the 'AgileDesigner.wbb' file. You may not see '.wbb' if your file extensions are not showing. In that case, the file would appear as 'AgileDesigner'.

  7. Click the 'Import' button.

  8. You will now see the AgileDesigner license container listed in the 'License' tab.

Option #2:

  1. Launch CodeMeter Control Center by one of the methods listed above.

  2. Click on the 'License' tab. If you have never applied a license before, or recently deleted a license or container, the list will be empty and you will see the message 'No CodeMeter License information available. No CmContainer found.'

  4. Select the 'AgileDesigner.wbb' file. You may not see '.wbb' if your file extensions are not showing. In that case, the file would appear as 'AgileDesigner'.

  5. Drag and drop the 'AgileDesigner.wbb' file into the 'License' tab of the CodeMeter Control Center window.

  6. You will now see the AgileDesigner license container listed in the 'License' tab.

Option #3:

  1. Open a command prompt. You can do this by searching for 'cmd' in your Windows start menu. It will show under 'Programs' as cmd.exe.

  2. Navigate to ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin’ using the following command:
    >cd C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin

  3. Use the cmu32 command line tool to import a new license container by running the following command:
    >cmu32 --import --file "C:\Program Files\CA\AgileDesigner\activation\AgileDesigner.wbb"

    - If you receive an error message, you may already have a container imported.
You can check this by opening CodeMeter Control Center. See directions from the 'Accessing CodeMeter Control Center' section.

    - If you have ARD installed in another location, you will need to edit the file path in the command accordingly. For example:
      >cmu32 --import --file "C:\Program Files\Grid-Tools\AgileDesigner\activation\AgileDesigner.wbb"

  4. Validate the new container has been imported by using the following command:
    >cmu32 --list

Now that your license container has been imported, you will be able to request and apply an Agile Designer license.
