CA Business Intelligence (CABI) includes SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI (BOXI), a complete suite of information management, reporting, and query and analysis tools. What configuration is required when firewalls are enabled on servers used to integrate CA Business Intelligence (CABI) and Business Objects Enterprise (BOXI) with CA DataMinder?

This solution assumes the following;

  • All default options were selected during the installation and configuration of the CA DataMinder and (CABI) BOXI products.

  • All (CABI) BOXI services were installed on a single server.

Any changes to the default options for these products should be taken into consideration when configuring firewalls on the servers involved and may require additional/different ports to be opened.

Additionally, if BusinessObjects Enterprise (BOXI) is installed on multiple servers for scalability, additional firewall configuration may also be necessary for the required services to communicate correctly.

On the BusinessObjects Enterprise (BOXI) server, the following ports need to be open for incoming connections:

  • Port 6400(TCP) - BOXI CMS Name Server port(default)

  • Port 8080(TCP) - Infoview(default)

  • BOXI CMS request port - this defaults to a dynamic port. The BOXI CMS Server needs to be reconfigured to use a static port when running behind a firewall, so an exception for that port can be added. Refer to the BOXI documentation for instructions on configuring the BOXI CMS Request port to use a static port number.

On the database server hosting the CA DataMinder CMS database:

  • BOXI needs to connect to the CA DataMinder CMS database using the native client installed locally on the BOXI server. A port needs to be opened on the CA DataMinder CMS database server to allow this client connection from BusinessObjects Enterprise. For example, if the CA DataMinder CMS database server was hosted on Microsoft SQL Server using the default port, then Port 1433(TCP) would need to be opened on this Microsoft SQL Server.

NOTE: Both BOXI and CA DataMinder use the term 'Central Management Server' and the acronym 'CMS'. These are NOT the same servers, and each product has its own separate component that is referred to as the 'CMS'.
