eHealth service fails within 60 seconds of starting

The eHealth system log shows that eHealth services begin to load, but then the service fails with the following error:

Error nhiServer Pgm nhiServer: The server stopped within 60 seconds, aborting.

This error can be caused by corruption of the file(s) that control the persistence of alarms across reboots. When eHealth starts it tries to determine the status of alarms on elements, and if that information has been corrupted the service will fail.


To resolve this problem, delete the corrupt files that manage alarm persistence. Open a command line interface and follow the steps below.

  1. Confirm that the eHealth services are down.

    nhServer stop

  2. Move into the directory $NH_HOME/data/liveEx

  3. Delete the persistence files in this directory

    In eHealth 6.0: analysisData.laf
    In eHealth 6.1.x and above: pollAnalysisData.laf and trapAnalysisData.laf

  4. Start eHealth services

    nhServer start

The *analysisData.laf files will automatically be recreated as empty files when eHealth cannot find them. Note that any existing alarms in Live Exceptions will have to be re-raised as part of the normal polling process.
