Issue/Introduction

The DSGROUP parameter is the Data Sharing Group Name and specifies the group name if the subsystem is a member of a Data Sharing group.
How is this parameter used by the Database Management Solutions for Db2 for z/OS tools?
What is the difference between the Group Name and the Group Attach Name?

Resolution

You can display both names with Db2 command -DISPLAY GROUP.

The DSGROUP parameter entry in the hlq.CDBAPARM's SETUPnn member is used by the Post Install task when binding packages and plans.
It is used in order to avoid performing a bind unnecessarily on more than one subsystem member of a data sharing group.

For a Data Sharing system, to access any member, the important thing is to define the Group Attach Name in member hlq.CDBAPARM(SETUPnn).
The Group Attach Name is a "generic" attachment name for all the members of the data sharing group. For example, DB2 Tools or DB2 applications can connect
to any member in the group by using the Group Attach Name.

Be aware that when the Group Attach Name is not the same as one of the members in the Data Sharing, it is mandatory to define the Group Attach Name in member
hlq.CDBAPARM(SETUPnn) so the Db2 Tools will know the necessary parameters, LOADLIBS, ZPARMLIB, ZPARMMEM, BSDS, ... The easiest way is to define the
Group Attach Name as one of the members in the Data Sharing but the most important are parameters BSDS and ZPARM, they can be from any of the members,
but both must come from the same member.
