Issue/Introduction

Description:

For some files being processed by the CA Spool Transformers, messages like
IEC988I CASPOOL,CASPOOL,SYS01072,081E,VOL001,USER.OVERLIB DATA SET NOT UNALLOCATED DURING CLOSE RC 03
are shown in the CA Spool task.

IEC998I is an informational message and was introduced with z/OS 1.12.
It is issued whenever FREE=CLOSE was specified in the JCL or in the CLOSE macro but was not honored.

Per the z/OS MVS System Messages, Vol 7 (IEB-IEE) IBM manual, RC=03 means another DCB in the address space is open to this DD name.

Solution:

This is likely to be observed with CA Spool whenever a JCL OUTPUT USERLIB was specified with a SYSOUT and the named datasets are also allocated in the CASpool task.

It can be verified using the following steps. On the file menu, enter "N" against one of the input files that caused the message to be issued. Position the cursor over the word "FULL" and press enter. Press FP8 until it displays "User libraries"; the dataset names shown with message(s) IEC988I should be seen on this screen.

Messages IEC988I are informational and can be ignored.
CA Spool processing continues.
