Issue/Introduction

CA Jobtrac Job Management requires CA Datacom/AD. This Knowledge Document describes the things you should consider when upgrading to Jobtrac JM r11.

Environment

Release: JOBT..00200-11-Jobtrac-Job Management
Component:

Resolution

CA Jobtrac requires CA Datacom/AD to run. CA Technologies recommends that you use the most current release/maintenance level of all component pieces when installing. Please check the CA Support web site for latest release information. Things to consider include:

  • Installing into an existing Multi-User Facility (MUF)

  • Installing into a new MUF

    • Where the software has not been installed yet

    • Where the software has already been installed

  • Migrating from a previous version of CA Datacom/AD

This pertains to CA Datacom/AD r12.0 and r14.0, which are the only currently supported releases as of October 2013.

It also does not address CA Datacom/DB, as that is more of an exception, and best handled by opening a support case.

CA Jobtrac JM can share a CA Datacom/AD MUF with other applications or it can have its own MUF. We recommend that CA Jobtrac JM have its own MUF for the following reasons:

  • CA Jobtrac JM is a systems product that must be available 24x7. Other applications may require the MUF to be shut down at times, which would make CA Jobtrac JM unusable

  • CA Jobtrac JM may impact performance of your existing CA Datacom/AD applications

  • CA Workload Automation Restart Option for z/os Schedulers (CA 11) can use the same MUF since it is closely tied to scheduling and has a similar requirement.

Prior to installing the CA Jobtrac JM product, you will need to install CA Datacom/AD in your environment. Please review the requirements in the "Preparing for Installation" chapter of the CA Datacom/AD Installation Guide and also review the appropriate README Informational Solution, which can be downloaded from the CA Support Online website, before beginning the CA Datacom/AD installation.

If you need to install the product in your environment, please consult the appropriate chapter in the CA Datacom/AD Installation Guide for the type of installation you need to complete:

  • Installing Your Product Using CA MSM

  • Installing Your Product From Pax-Enhanced ESD

  • Installing Your Product From Tape

To create a new CA Datacom/AD MUF and configure it for use in your environment, please consult the CA Datacom/AD Installation Guide chapter titled "Installing Your Product" and the section "Migrate Procedure (Quick Upgrade)" (version 12.0) or the chapter "Starting Your Product" (version 14.0).

Once the installation and customization are complete, and if the Migrate Phase to upgrade from a previous release of CA Datacom/AD was completed, refer to the chapter "Post-Installation Considerations" for further details as needed.
