Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

The following alert is triggered via vSAN Health Service for a vSAN Cluster after it was brought up from being shutdown:

Stats Primary election

The following symptoms are observed:

  • vSAN Performance Service is disabled and unable to start.

  • While CMMDS Primary has been elected, Stats Primary could not be elected.

  • Upon browsing the vSAN Datastore, we find that there are multiple .vsan.stats directories.

Environment

vSAN 7.x

vSAN 8.x

Cause

The issue can come up after a Cluster merge or Maintenance activities.

Resolution

  1. Browse the vSAN datastore, select the .vsan.stats directories appended with -1, -2 etc., and delete.

  2. SSH to all the hosts in the vSAN cluster and run the following command to restart the vSAN Management service:

    /etc/init.d/vsanmgmtd restart

  3. Open the vCenter GUI and re-enable the Performance Service. vSAN Cluster > Configuration > vSAN > Services

  4. Once the Performance Service has been enabled, click RETEST in the vSAN Health Service.

If step 1 fails or the issue persists after taking all these steps, please contact Broadcom Support for further assistance.
