"CIM service on ESXi is deprecated and will be removed in the next major release. SLP is enabled on the host. Please refer to KB 95798 for more details."

Environment

vSphere ESXi 8.0 Update 3

Cause

  • Support for CIM and SLP is deprecated in vSphere ESXi 8.0 due to security issues.
  • Accordingly, following VOBs (VMKernel Observations) are introduced in ESXi 8.0 Update 3 to inform the removal of CIM and SLP services in the next major release of ESXi.

Resolution

  • In ESXi 8.0 Update 3, CIM and SLP services are going to work with out any impact.
  • These VOBs are informational. If the functionality being provided by the installed CIM providers is still needed in next major release, kindly reach out to corresponding 3rd party CIM vendor for equivalent replacement solutions.
    Note that there is no replacement for SLP when SLP is removed in upcoming major release.

Workaround :-

  • No workaround is required in 8.0.3.  If the replacement solutions are required for existing CIM providers, please reach out to corresponding 3rd party CIM vendor.
  • Please use esxcli commands for internal CIM provider information as an alternative. For example, for some of the storage, PCI information:
    $ esxcli storage vmfs extent list
    $ esxcli hardware pci list
