Issue/Introduction

Unable to copy or duplicate a Symantec VIP Access desktop or mobile credential ID to a different device

Resolution

Symantec VIP Access credential IDs are device-specific. For your protection from potential fraud, a VIP credential ID cannot be copied or moved to a different device or restored if the VIP Access app is reinstalled.

A new credential ID is generated when:

  • the VIP Access app is installed for the first time.
  • the VIP Access app is reinstalled.
  • data from a device is backed up, then restored to a different device (e.g, restoring backup data from one phone to another. Note: the credential ID is retained when restoring to the same device.)
  • significant hardware changes  (e.g., motherboard upgrade to a laptop, a phone is 'rooted')

The VIP security code used to access your company VPN or other resources must be generated by your assigned VIP Credential ID. To change or update your assigned VIP Credential ID, contact your organization's VIP helpdesk or administrator for assistance.
