Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange

Issue/Introduction

Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) console shows old virus and definitions date.

Below event can be seen in event viewer

7/27/2022 4:45:06 AM        Application        Warning        Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange        "Server FQDN"            404        "Virus definitions are 561 days old. To remain protected ensure that Liveupdate is working properly.

The lux.log shows that the LiveUpdate session was successful and latest virus definitions have been downloaded and installed.

Environment

SMSMSE 7.10

Cause

C:\Program Files\Symantec\SMSMSE\7.10\Server\definitions\Master\Stargate\bin_back folder was not deleted during SMSMSE upgrade and prevents the Console from updating the definition date.

Resolution

Please follow the below steps to resolve the issue : 

  1. Stop the SMSMSE service. 
  2. Delete the folder "C:\Program Files\Symantec\SMSMSE\7.10\Server\definitions\Master\Stargate\bin_back".
  3. Start the SMSMSE service.
  4. Run Liveupdate.
